Srimati Basu is Associate Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, and Anthropology, at the University of Kentucky, working on law, marriage, and violence. She is the author of the monograph, The Trouble with Marriage: Feminists Confront Law and Violence in India. She has written about Indian women and inheritance laws in, She Comes to Take Her Rights: Indian Women, Property and Propriety; and on property, law, marriage, intimacy, violence, and popular culture in various anthologies and journals. She edited the Dowry & Inheritance volume in the series 'Issues in Contemporary Indian Feminism', and is a contributing blogger to Ms. magazine.
